Safety checks and inspections
Transport for NSW maintains inspection and certification schemes to make sure that all vehicles meet minimum safety requirements. Most vehicles require a safety check before you can renew registration. Other inspections may be required for different vehicle types.Do it online

Safety check required when renewing your registration
Generally, light vehicles more than five years old require a safety check (previously called a blue slip) before you can renew the registration. Light vehicles include:- Passenger cars
- Goods carrying vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass of 4.5 tonnes or less (without power-operated brakes)
- All motorcycles
- Trailers and caravans with an aggregate trailer mass of 4.5 tonnes or less (including those fitted with breakaway brakes, but not including those fitted with air or vacuum (breakaway) braking systems).
Validity of safety check inspection reports
Light vehicle safety check inspection reports are valid for six months (excluding public passenger vehicles). This means that you’ll need to use the report to renew registration within six months of having the safety check.Failed safety checks
If your vehicle fails the safety check, you can’t renew the registration until the required repairs are made. The AIS station will issue a Repairs Needed report showing what repairs are required. If the repairs are completed within 14 days, the vehicle can be reassessed at the same AIS station with no additional safety check fees. If you present your vehicle for reassessment after the 14 day period, you will need to pay another safety check inspection fee. Once the repairs have been made and the vehicle passes the safety check, the AIS station will issue a safety check report, and you can renew your registration.John Peterson

Do I need to be at the inspection?
It is not necessary for you to be present during the inspection, however you are welcome to be there if you wish. The inspector will be focused strongly on the inspection so that they can complete their work in the given time frame and sometimes interruptions during the inspection can make it difficult to do so. You will receive a phone call after the inspection is completed and you will be given a verbal rundown on the findings. You will then receive a comprehensive detailed report via email together with pictures of the car and any faults found, in most cases 25-50 pictures via email.
How long does the inspection take?
Inspections usually take anywhere from 30 minutes up to 1 hour for blue slip/rego checks, otherwise for pre-purchase vehicle inspection anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
Do you go to private homes for inspections?
Yes, we provide a mobile service. We can go to a home, work place or car dealership for the inspection.
How much notice do you need to conduct an inspection?
Same day service or sometimes next day service depending on the time of booking
How much does an inspection cost?
The cost does depends on the type of vehicle and its location and also the level of inspection you require.
Does the inspection price include GST?
Yes, all our prices are G.S.T. inclusive.
Why choose us and not your local mechanic?
Firstly, we're full time vehicle inspection specialists. It's what we do. And if you want the best advice you go to the experts. All our inspectors are fully qualified mechanics and vehicle inspectors. Your local mechanic may not be and are unlikely to have our depth of vehicle inspecting experience. Secondly, we are an independent third party. Our objective is to give you a fair, accurate and unbiased assessment of the mechanical condition of your vehicle. Our job ends there. We have nothing to gain from subsequent mechanical repairs and are therefore your most trustworthy source for independent mechanical assessments.
How do you compare with other inspection companies?
We believe that we are the only company that inspects and comments on 250+ items on the vehicle, competitors may claim they do the same however dont be fooled always ask for a sample report and compare for yourself. We have been the industry leaders in vehicle inspections for over 25 years, well before some of our competitors began trading, infact a number of our competitors began as inspectors with us and could not meet our expectations. We put our money where our mouth is and give you a warranty with the inspection, reason is that we are confident in our work together with our hand picked and trained ‘A’ grade mechanics combined with 25 years of vehicle inspection experience and training, puts us ahead in a league of our own.
Can you do a diagnostic scan on the vehicles on board computer systems?
Yes, all our Platinum checks come standard with a full diagnostic scan or this can be added to any inspection for an additional charge. Also please be aware that we do a full vehicle diagnostic scan not just the engine as some others do.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes, we not only guarantee what the inspectors findings are, in addition some of our inspections include a 30 day $500.00 warranty. See terms and conditions for more detail.
Can you carry out repairs to a vehicle?
All our training and focus is on vehicle inspections, we don't carry out any repairs. We specifically adhere to this as this is the only way you can be assured of an accurate and unbiased inspection.
I picked up your business card from a motor dealer, how can I be assured that there is no collusion?
Over the past 25 years our service has been carried out at motor dealers and private locations, motor dealers are aware of the extent of our service and some motor dealers would prefer an inspection by a local mechanic or someone less experienced. Infact it is rare that a motor dealer will recommend us, because they know the level of our inspection will not do any favours for the seller, our focus is in giving the buyer an accurate and honest report. Our Vehicle Inspections are an independent inspection company and are NOT ASSOCIATED with any MOTOR TRADERS or motor dealers. We have built our reputation on being thorough and reporting on the vehicle as it stands and motor dealers are aware of that.
Do you carry your own insurance?
Yes, all our inspectors are fully insured at the work location and during the road test.
